The Highman Reading Blog

Check-ins/Updates:

Before I begin:

I’ve been hearing about this series for a while, so I’m excited to finally read it πŸ‘πŸ½ On the surface, based off the description (from Amazon), there’s going to be a marriage of convenience, which I like πŸ€— I guess I’ll know more in time ⏱

After reading the st chapter, think I remember this story more πŸ€” It’s so much more than I can read on Amazon.

Chapter 6

Still have a fair amount of questions πŸ€” But I β™₯️ Farah & Dougan! 😍 Sure, their love was young, but it was beautiful

This book has unexpected darkness 😱 I know I should’ve been warned beforehand but πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

Chapter 17

Idk πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ if it’s me or my current mind space, but not enjoying this book like I anticipated. Maybe because I heard the hype πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ There are parts I enjoy 😊 The whole Dougan arc πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ˜ I’m definitely intrigued πŸ€” Her relationship with Blackwell is a little insta-lovey (which I usually dislike). The book is the typical length of a book, but it’s running a little slow 🐒 At this point, I’d normally anticipate a 3rd act conflict, but I still have so many questions πŸ€” Namely, who is Farah Leigh Townsend?

End of book πŸ“–

Still trying to establish some kind of procedure πŸ˜‚ Like structure and order πŸ€“πŸ˜‚ So far, coincides with my Instagram stories πŸ˜‚

For a potentially dark story, light ending 😁 and, seemingly mundane, epilogue πŸ€” But makes me intrigued by the series πŸ§πŸ˜‚πŸ€“

PT still on pause ⏸ but the wait has been informative 🧐 πŸ˜‰

Events I’m excited for:

Not sure πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ if I could say excited but plan to get my COVID Booster Saturday

See my Vaccine πŸ’‰ Update for reference πŸ˜‰

Funny story πŸ˜‚: Instagram threads that are outdated

Something good :

Stepping up my Instagram Story game πŸ€— Learned to add links!

Bookish friends I feel I can reach out too πŸ™πŸΎ

Recently got my βœ… Flu Shot βœ… Booster πŸ‘πŸ½ for the season!

Booster Update

Pandemic is still here and a booster for the vaccine πŸ’‰ was synthesised. Side effects after getting it are the same as the vaccine πŸ’‰ (see Vaccine πŸ’‰ Update

https://listenwirhprecious.com/2021/04/18/vaccine-%f0%9f%92%89-update/)

As with the vaccine πŸ’‰, anxious about how my body will react πŸ€” But I know I have to get it πŸ™πŸΎ

Felt slightly late to the show here, but thinking πŸ€” of getting it Friday through my city. But better late than never!

Been hearing most people just encounter arm soreness, but side effects can be the safe as the vaccine πŸ’‰. So I’ll be following a similar care regimen as the vaccine πŸ’‰

Just to reiterate πŸ˜‰

1. Drink lots of water πŸ’§

2. Keep moving my arm. Arm rotations have helped me A LOT! πŸ‘πŸ½

3. Take Vitamin D and C.

Getting the booster Saturday 🀞🏼

Getting my booster through my city πŸŒƒπŸ™ŒπŸ½ Seemed like an efficient system and setup! The booster is 1/2 the vaccine πŸ’‰ dose!

Injection caused limited bleeding 🩸😁 Started doing arm rotations right away πŸ‘πŸ½ Really just have 🀞🏼 a sore arm. Feels heavy and it’s sensitive to touch.

From Duke Till Dawn Reading Blog

Note: Copying and pasting is proving to be more different πŸ™πŸΎ

Check-ins/Updates:

Before I begin:

Girl from the wrong side of the tracks πŸ€” I’m intrigued. Turns out Cassandra has conned (and successfully charmed) the Duke of Greyland πŸ˜‚ She needs his help, years later πŸ˜‚ For, what looks like a good πŸ‘πŸ½ time πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‡

Prologue – Chapter 4

How everything is being set up promises to be a fun story πŸ‘πŸ½ Not information dumping but informative! From the beginning they’re brought together again πŸ˜‚

Martin gives me evil villain πŸ¦Ήβ€β™‚οΈ vibes. Cassandra wants to be good 😊 but, as commonly happens in life, hardship can lead to poor decisions πŸ€” Can’t blame Cassandra but wish she’d find another way 🀞🏼

In the last book, we noted names of gaming hells πŸ€” What’s the name of Martin’s gaming hell?

Quotes πŸ‘‡πŸ½ from my reading that I reacted to! Also, I will try to summarize the last scene in the section!

Finish up with my thoughts πŸ’ at the end of each section too!

You always want, what you can’t have πŸ˜‰

Expectations are added pressure πŸ€”

Caught!

True!

Is that really honorable though? πŸ€”

No one wants things half finished 😏

Complement in an insult? Reminds me of Bridgeton πŸ€”

Sad realities πŸ₯²

Last scene: Alex decides, while talking to Ellingsworth, he’d marry Cassandra

The groundwork was successfully lain πŸ‘πŸ½ Quotes that really resonated with me were related to roles and expectations, which are a major driving force for everyone

Chapter 5 – Chapter 8

True to his word, Alex is there for Cassandra β™₯️ From paying staff to taking Cassandra in (future cohabitation 😏) to helping her search for Martin. Underandanly, people are mistrustful and skeptical 🀨 But you can see Cassandra is trying! She has her faults but wouldn’t do anything like this 😱 Alex is very honorable in this section (but when isn’t he?)

Last scene: Meet Mrs. Rose Donavan

πŸ₯²

Truth

πŸ™ŒπŸ½

πŸ₯²

Ouch πŸ€•

Sometimes you just want to

Being pensive πŸ€” 🧐

😱πŸ₯²

The suspence can just eat away at you

Evedence of Alex’s unlovability 😱πŸ₯²

It’s like yelling πŸ”₯ in a crowded theatre πŸ€”

A subject that needs to be address, sooner than later

I understand Cassandra…

Another way of saying β€œYou don’t know my life!”. πŸ€”

Ouch πŸ€•

Avoidance.

Capitalism is alive and well!

I feel for Cassandra’s circumstances, BUT I, also, understand Alex’s feelings. With his low image of his lovability (not saying it’s wrong but unfortunate).

Only had quotes if I read them in my ebook! Read the audiobook too πŸ˜‚ Exercised restraint 😏 Waited until we caught up on the chapters!

Chapter 9 – Chapter 13

Alex and Cassandra are in full pursuit of Martin, learning more about each other, in the process 😏 But their attraction is UNDERSTANDABLE πŸ€— Not going to name specifics, but this section is fun-(NY πŸ˜‚).

Last scene: Orchid Club shindig over. In the cold πŸ₯Ά morning, Alex hugs Cassandra to keep her warm πŸ€—

Again, refraining from posting as I read (like usual) so I don’t accidentally spoil anything πŸ˜‚ Been told I do that πŸ˜‚

Quotes to come! πŸ˜‚

Chapter 14 – Chapter 17

This section really amps up the story! Feels more Cassandra-centric πŸ€” Trying not to give too much away πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ But the quotes might fo that πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‡ You’ve been warned! βš οΈπŸ˜‚

Quotes πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Including them in my book club discord is too hard, but they’ll be here! Only chapters I read on my ebook are included πŸ˜‰

This is an expected trajectory for the plot πŸ€”

Last scene: Cassandra, Lacey, and Lacey’s 2 lackeys at Walden Gardens

Chapter 18 – Epilogue

Alex saves her 😍 Was that really a question?

Cassandra is a relatively independent (yet dependent) character πŸ€” She believes its her against the world 🌎

Alex came for her πŸ‘πŸ½ Liked Ellingsworth and Langdon’s involvement to help make them happen 😁

End of book πŸ“–

Not overly deep but satisfying πŸ‘πŸ½ No plot holes I’m aware of. The story was relatively light with likeable characters. Liked the untraditional epilogue πŸ‘πŸ½, where it highlights happy endings aren’t just marriage ank kids (it can be, but not the only outcome)
