May 2021 TBR

Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ Realized I never finished this ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

So Iโ€™m back for another addition… All my TBRs begin with books I need to read. Since Iโ€™ve been okโ€™d by my neurologist, books that previously werenโ€™t available to me, are now ๐Ÿ˜ Not sure what the experience will be like, but excited to try!

At this moment, donโ€™t know of any bookish events… So I prioritize my book club reads. All I know of right now is

His At Night by Sherry Thomas., read by 5/10.

After Midnight by Teresa Medairos

Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas

Filthy by Serena Akeroyd

Then I hit my goals…

Romancing The Duke by Tessa Dare

Rebel by Beverly Jenkins

After watching โ€œShadow And Boneโ€…

Shadow And Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Siege And Storm by Leigh Bardugo

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

The Demon In The Wood by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

April 2021 TBR

I just wanted to show insight into my planning process… I begin with books I need to read, including read by dates.

There are some exciting bookish events this month, along with a new release!

From Blood And Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Cross of Gilded Bone by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I, also, have my book clubs this month (4 now)! I love the planning and time management that goes into TBRs!

Between The Devil And The Duke by Kelly Bowan read by 4/12

Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath must read by 4/8

A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole read by 4/19

The Heirress Gets A Duke by Harper St. George read by 4/24

So I have thos books to read + my goals (letโ€™s say 1 of each)

The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare

Then I include books I want to read. I try and alternate HR with fantasy romance like…

Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath

Cold Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas

The Heirress Gets A Duke by Harper St. George

Falling Out Of Love With You by Lauren Rowe

The Cross If Gilded Bone by Jennifer L.

The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare

Shadow And Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I, honestly, have multiple TBRs going at a time. I find TbRs to be helpful, for copy & pasting (C&P)… Especially for past events (like the Black Author Readathon (see my Reading goal: Diversifying Authors post)! Not sure when its dropping, but its coming!

Kindle Clear Out Readathon Blog

Saturday (Day 1)

I continued reading Kingdom Of Flesh And Fire. Noticed Iโ€™m better able to balance readathons and what I need to do in regular life! Today I went to a drive-by baby shower for a friend ๐Ÿ˜„

Sunday (Day 2)

Still reading Kingdom Of Flesh And Fire. Hopefully ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ I finish it today. Still enjoying it but noticed the plot was a little slower, but definitely getting more Cas & Poppy โค๏ธ Which Iโ€™m loving ๐Ÿฅฐ Love their character development but slows down the plot…

As I ate I reread Love Only Once by Johanna Lindsey that I previously read as a book club read. Recently decided to read the series, being so similar to the Bridgerton series, which I love โค๏ธ

Took a little longer to get through but I liked it! I think I might call it a night afterwards…Tomorrow Iโ€™ll tackle some HR book club reads ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Monday (Day 3)

I try not to get into a new book at night… That way I get good sleep ๐Ÿ˜‰ My initial plan for today is to read a book for my book club… But I accidentally got the ebook version…๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ Entirely my mistake! Instead I read another book for another book club (Accidentally Engaged by Farah Heron) Traditionally, I like more historical romance (HR) than contemporary… so ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ

Increased the playback speed to 2x ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Loving this book ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚ a little conflicted with what to do next… to read more or no?

Tuesday (Day 4)

Received Shot #1 of the Covid vaccine ๐Ÿ’‰ at 11:25! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ Reading A Court Of Thorns And Roses kept me nice and preoccupied while in line ๐Ÿ˜„ Afterwards, we ate at Chiliโ€™s (my first time dining in for a whole year…)

Resumed reading A Court Of Thorns And Roses

Wednesday (Day 5)

Not much to say… just read The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

Thursday (Day 6)

Finished The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare. Started A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas.

Just stayed warm in bed in my sweater blanket! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Friday (Day 7)

Should finish A Court Of Mist And Fury today. Still only read 5 books… Noticed chunky books take me 2-3 days to get through even at 2.5 speed…

Late start… Preoccupied with birthday preparations, since itโ€™s the month of birthdays ๐Ÿฅณ Really didnโ€™t feel like reading today… Started 11 pm… ๐Ÿ˜‚ Couldnโ€™t finish off A Court Of Mist And Fury… But got distracted by YT ๐Ÿ˜‚

Saturday (Day 8)

Added 1 day to finish A Court Of Mist And Fury. Today feels more customary.

Went on a drive ๐Ÿš— read while on it ๐Ÿ˜„ As I sit as we drive by, Iโ€™m alarmed by the lack of masks ๐Ÿ˜ท I see…

Day in MY Life

NOTE: Varies daily. Depends where I am.

Location change. Able to update more frequently.

Feels self-important to me… ๐Ÿ˜‚ but realized itโ€™s important to talk about…like someone ๐Ÿ˜‰ said: blogging is journaling.

Feel like it provides context for why I do what I do…

Wake up, put on my head/earphones, try & do bed exercises, eat brunch

When I eat, I canโ€™t talk so itโ€™s safer to just wear head/earphones ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ listening to a book just puts me in a new world ๐ŸŒŽ

Thereโ€™s a baby in our home ๐Ÿคซshe lights up the house ๐Ÿค— Formerly would just park my wheelchair ๐Ÿฆฝ and listen so I can keep an eye on her as she sleeps

A baby naturally sleeps alot. I go into my room so the floor doesnโ€™t creek

Prevalent Tropes: Fake Dating, Attanged Marriage, Foodie Romance

3-word Summary: Cook for Love โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ญ Live Comments/Blog commentary:

  • Arranged marriages now?
  • Fake dating ftw!
  • Immigration component ๐Ÿค”
  • Undeniable chemistry ๐Ÿ˜

Movies/show rec:

๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Still thinking ๐Ÿค” You got one?

Felt unsure about recommending anything… but realized Iโ€™ll include a blurb for my reasoning!

For this case, Iโ€™d rec Great English Bake-Off ๐Ÿ˜‹ itโ€™s a baking ๐ŸŽ‚ ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿฅง ๐Ÿž ๐Ÿช show. You donโ€™t have to watch it all ๐Ÿ˜‰

Note: Eat first, may induce hunger ๐Ÿ˜‚

Accidentally Engaged by Farah Heron Live

It has been brought to my attention, not everyone reads (๐Ÿ˜ญ) due to lack of time or interest… Hopefully ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ my bookish content just puts it out there! These videos are, in no way, a dictation of any sort… merely a suggestion ๐Ÿ˜‚

This live in particular are with some of my YT resources into the booktube world! I owe them a lot, whether or not they know me… I find it awesome they provide this space!

This live, in particular, doesnโ€™t talk about the book too much… you are NOT at risk for spoilers!

Actually, I watched this live while attending another zoom call too! Generally, I love their book commentary! Glad for the chance to interact with them!

Note: Trying to bundle lives with book reviews. The published summary is off Amazon, eventually Iโ€™d like to write it!

Bookish Sick Chicks Reaction Blog

Found this YT video yesterday! Elongates my disability-yeah mood at the moment! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Always glad when I come across people with similar expectations… NOT that I want anyone to be sick…

Sick people Doโ€™s and DONโ€™Ts:

1. Donโ€™t stare.

2. If youโ€™re ever unsure if you should ask… probably better to not.

3. Avoid unsolicited advice.

4. Donโ€™t remark on appropriates.

5. Donโ€™t say things with your eyes

6. Just listen.

7. Let them be mad ๐Ÿ˜ก .

8. โ€œHow can I help?โ€

9. Avoid โ€œshouldโ€ statements

10. Be understanding

Note: These โ€œrules โ€œ are my recommendations. I am not absolute.

Note: Everyone reacts differently! Just be courtious, itโ€™s all I can suggest in GENERAL

So, in order to get to this video, watched a different video first that linked me here. BUT I FOUnD IT! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Bit of a chunker video (about 3:38) but so grateful this was addressed! One of the main reasons I got into reading romance is that wearing my headphones ๐ŸŽง and doing something ALONE is nice and my experience with romance book commentary has been awesome!

Really enjoyed hearing similar but different diagnoses stories! Thanks for sharing! Know itโ€™s personal but a common thread Ive seen is self-advocacy and self-education…Both are SO important

So my whole dive is partly due to

https://youtu.be/RWqX690Z09k by @peacelovebooksxo. After watching that video, I was so hyped! It also links the Bookish Sick Chicks Chat ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ My introduction with the romance booktube community was partly influenced by @peacelovebooksxo ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Apologies this post is a little all over the place! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ From now on, my reaction to the chat ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ There were tears ๐Ÿ˜ญ Felt like I was reliving the experience (in a cathartic way…)

A common theme I see is self-advocacy and self-education (hi google! ๐Ÿ˜‚) so for providers, please recognize your unique position ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ As someone with doctor, nurse, therapy friends… Itโ€™s no oneโ€™s fault, itโ€™s life! This is someoneโ€™s life, itโ€™s not a game!

All Iโ€™ve had until the strokes were migraines (with aura, vomiting) since 7th grade. Had my first migraine at the mall… Threw up in the food court… As I got older, I would still get migraines… When that happened, I had to shut down… I would regularly go to my best friend. To lie down, throw up, and wait for the migraine to pass… I wouldnโ€™t drive until it was gone…

My migraines usually would resolve after throwing up. As I got older, that was no longer true… Keep in mind my memory is foggy after the summer of 2018… Remember coming home. Donโ€™t remember walking into a wall…

Went back to Boston, going to work as a cardiac surgery RN. Donโ€™t remember much besides going to work, being tired, and snow โ›„๏ธ

As I watch the video I wrote this…

Granted its hole-y, but leading up to November 27,2017, I felt unsteady. It felt like I was going to fall… Stayed in my room, called off work… The day of the stroke, remember crawling from my bathroom to my room… My friend found me… She asked me if I could walk.. She called the ambulance and I went to the hospital… I had a stroke… Did a stint in the Neuro ICU, ran A LOT of tests because we still didnโ€™t know why I had a stroke… Come to find out, Iโ€™m hyper-colagable. That means I form blood clots easily.

A stroke is the disruption of blood flow to the brain. People usually have 1) a blood clot or 2) a brain bleed.

With illness, thereโ€™s still some humor… ๐Ÿ˜‚ The chat did have LOL moments. I, personally, like to joke (especially on myself) I think it just depends on the time, place, audience. For me, I try to remember people arenโ€™t ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ malicious…

I had my stroke November 27. 2017. That day is pretty foggy ๐ŸŒซ canโ€™t imagine what it was like for my friends and family… Im sorry for the position i put everyone in! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Something I really wondered about was maintaining my privacy yet being transparent…

Social anxiety is real…Get anious when eating in front of anyone… I hate chocking! Dread coughing even…

Being sick, gratefulness is KEY ๐Ÿ”‘ Just recognizes the privalege to be alive, thankful to everyone who loves you, being to do whatever you can… it helps tons because dark days are gonna come… the anger is real… my old therapist told me โ€œItโ€™s okay to be madโ€ โค๏ธ soo true…

Audiobooks are a godsend! Really enables me to read (more like listen ๐ŸŽง) Something I heard really resonated with me… โ€œshut your ablist mouth!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

The genetic component of my hyper-colagibilty was my #1 concern… Wouldnโ€™t want this to happen to anyone… Iโ€™m prone to miscarrages… If I wver were to become pregnant, it would be high risk… Fortunately, Iโ€™ve accepted that…

My 1st Read-along!

Book: Her Wicked Marquess by Stacy Reid

Joined on 3/2/21. Facilitators and group were very nice and welcoming, excited to join the club ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Have previously read the prequel, My Darling Duke, so I thought itโ€™d be easy to slide in… Boy was I wrong…

Day 2 (Wednesday) Chapters 10-15.

Thought itโ€™d be a piece of cake being a re-read and having reading notes. Initially planned to read over my notes and see which comments correspond to which chapters. But I accidentally erased them…

Back to chapter 1. I planned to read to chapter 15. Before I commented Iโ€™d look over the nice chapter summaries on our group thread, kindly provided by one of the facilitators.

Encouraging messages on my thread from my fellow members! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Still 3 chapters to reach daily goals to keep up with the read-along, but determined to participate tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜

Day 4 (Thursday) Chapters 15-20

Finally all caught up! ๐Ÿค— Feel I can finally join the conversation BUT had to premise that I was unfortunately behind on the thread. Felt good to post ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Finished the book! Rated it the same as the first time BUT the book club did help me better understand an aspect of the plot! ๐Ÿ˜‚

MED scare! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Ran out of Xarelto… For anyone with experience with strokes, Xarelto is a blood thinner. Itโ€™s meant to thin my blood so a clot doesnโ€™t form. I am hypercoagulable, meaning my blood spontaneously forms clots. I took a 15 mg tablet, usually I take 10 mg. A common side effect is bleeding ๐Ÿฉธ, on 20 and 15 mg my nose would bleed. Fortunately, we found one. Not going to lie, the thought is scary. Iโ€™m on Xarelto for life.

Day 5 (Friday) Chapters 21 – Epilogue

I woke up to a nice suprise ๐Ÿ˜„ My godmother and goddaughter came over ๐Ÿ˜„ Then for other news…Caught up on thread. Find itโ€™s easier to reply as comments come in. The comments by the book club help to better illustrate aspects of the plot. Enjoyed reading our thread! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ it had great discussion! ๐Ÿค—

Watched the clubโ€™s IG live with the facilitators! Enjoyed it โค๏ธ Helps connect with its members and sheds light on the plot ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Also, nice to feel more familiar ๐Ÿ˜„ Marked the end of the read-along for me ๐Ÿค—

My sister kindly picked up my new prescription of Xarelto today ๐Ÿค—
